A letter T built from Tron blocks with brass confirmation pulses — the TRC20 network

What is TRC20?

TRC20 is the token standard of the Tron blockchain — the rulebook a token follows so wallets, exchanges and desks can issue and transfer it on Tron. It matters in the UAE for one reason: most USDT moves on Tron, so TRC20 is the default network for USDT transfers across the region.

How does TRC20 work?

TRC20 works as a rulebook that a Tron smart contract follows so wallets, exchanges and desks can recognise and move the token. Tron produces a block roughly every three seconds, and a TRC20 transfer is typically credited within about a minute. Fees are paid in TRX, Tron's native coin.

The fee mechanics are unusual. Tron charges in two resources — bandwidth and energy — and a wallet without enough rented energy burns TRX per transfer: at the network's current energy price of 100 sun, a USDT send to an address that already holds USDT burns roughly 6.5 TRX, and a send to an address that does not burns roughly 13 TRX. The cost is fixed by the protocol rather than auctioned block by block, so TRC20 fees stay flat while Ethereum gas floats with congestion.

This is the leg your tokens travel when you sell USDT through a licensed desk in Dubai: you send on Tron, the desk credits the deposit, and the bank wire follows. The desk side of that sequence — quote, credit, wire — is identical on any network.

How is TRC20 used in the UAE?

TRC20 is the default USDT network in the UAE — the rail most local desks, exchanges and private counterparties quote against by habit. Retail senders in the Gulf–Asia corridors adopted Tron first for its flat fees, and the region's liquidity followed. Around half of all USDT in circulation sits on Tron, according to Tether's transparency data (as of September 2026).

You can spot a TRC20 address by its first letter: Tron addresses start with "T", Ethereum addresses with "0x". The official USDT contract on Tron is TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t; if a wallet shows a USDT balance under any other contract, treat it as a different token.

Network dominance changes nothing about pricing. The network is a delivery mechanism, not a pricing input: your trade still anchors to the dollar peg, and the USDT/AED rate sits on the 3.6725 fix whichever network carries the tokens.

What does TRC20 change when you sell USDT?

TRC20 changes only the transfer leg of a USDT sale: how fast the tokens arrive and what you pay to send them. The rate, the spread and the bank settlement are identical whether you send TRC20 or ERC20. A licensed desk credits a TRC20 deposit after its confirmation threshold and releases AED by UAEFTS the same business day.

Four habits prevent the only real TRC20 risk, which is operational:

The chain is rarely the slow part of a sale. Account approval takes one business day, so open the account before you need it — the document list is in our onboarding section. A licensed desk pays only to an account in your own name; our VARA licence, VL/24/03/017, is linked from the licence section of the main page.

What does TRC20 cost on a large trade?

On a settlement-sized trade the TRC20 network fee is a rounding error next to the desk spread. The worked example below uses Meridian's published pricing bands, as of September 2026.

Worked example: selling 250,000 USDT on TRC20, September 2026 pricing.
Cost lineAmountNote
Desk spread (0.08% band) 200 USDT ≈ AED 735 Fixed in the written quote
TRC20 network fee ≈US$1–7, paid in TRX Goes to the network, not the desk
AED settlement Same business day By UAEFTS, to your own account

On this ticket the network fee is under 0.003% of the trade — the spread is the only cost that matters, and it is agreed before you send anything.

The full bands — 0.08% to 0.40% by ticket size — are published on our pricing section, with a calculator that converts the band into money at your size.

FAQ

Is TRC20 the same as USDT?

No. USDT is the token Tether issues; TRC20 is the network standard it travels on over Tron. The same USDT also exists on Ethereum as ERC20 — one USDT holds the same one-dollar value on either network.

How much does a TRC20 transfer cost?

Roughly US$1–7 in network fees, paid in TRX, as of September 2026. The cost is set by Tron's resource model rather than auctioned block by block, so it stays flat — unlike Ethereum gas, which floats with congestion.

How fast is TRC20?

Tron produces a block about every three seconds. A TRC20 transfer is typically credited within about a minute and becomes effectively irreversible after 19–20 confirmations.

What happens if I send USDT on the wrong network?

The tokens do not appear where you expected. If the recipient controls the same address on that network, recovery is sometimes possible; if not, the funds can be lost permanently. Confirm the network in writing and test a small amount first.

Sell USDT on TRC20 with same-day bank settlement

Meridian OTC is a VARA-licensed Broker-Dealer in Dubai. Send TRC20 or ERC20 — the written quote is all-in, spread 0.08–0.40% by size, and AED reaches your own bank account the same business day by UAEFTS.
